People talk about the “dumbing down of society.” Well I have always prescribed to the belief that “there is nothing new under the sun” and things are probably just going along as always.

However, a stark reality hit home while I was at my annual car wash this week. Something happened that brought home what people are talking about.

This new, modern, touchless car wash, promised to provide a “magic” wash, which I only anticipated meant it was the most expensive. But no, it must have been some kind of magic.

For one, I am not sure what definition of touchless they have, but there were spinning brushes cleaning my car. Of course, that’s fine with me, because I always thought that was kind of necessary. Maybe they meant I wasn’t allowed to touch the car wash.

The most confounding part, was when the computerized female voice who was announcing every step of this magic process, stated “the wheel cleaning is now in process” just as the contraption began spraying my windshield. I wasn’t sure who was more confused, but I was convinced that was indeed my windshield, and could not help but laugh out loud!

Needless to say, I am now open to the idea that dumbness is not new, but may have reached a new high, or low, either way you want to look at it. It did, however, make for an entertaining outing!
