being a mom, and then learning how not to be

A Life of Blessing

My generation was too young to be drafted for the Vietnam war, but old enough to understand at least what the yellow ribbons tied around an “old oak tree” were for. We heard about the protests and sung along with all the “freedom” songs of the 70s. We grew up knowing how important it was to love others and be kind. We understand about Peace and loving your brothers and sisters. It is still a foreign idea to hate as a “go to” and expect people to lie, cheat, and steal. Many of us had siblings who went to war, perhaps even lost siblings. I was fortunate that none of my siblings had to go. I cannot imagine the loss of that.

Today, there is so much hate. So much negativity. So much anger. Everyone believing they “deserve” more than they have. I am so thankful for my family. For all the years we have had together. For all the music, the joy, if it was over today I would have to say that I have been truly blessed.
